Crop Cycle Length Determines Optimal Transplanting Date for Seedlings from Hybrid True Potato Seeds

چکیده

Abstract The technology of hybrid breeding in diploid potatoes creates opportunities to design novel and improved cultivation systems based on true potato seeds. A promising pathway produce seed or ware tubers is by transplanting greenhouse-raised seedlings into the field. This study explored effects date seedling age tuber yield, using seedlings. Field trials with experimental genotypes were conducted three consecutive years. In 2017 2018, 4- 6-week-old transplanted at four dates: March, April, May June. 2019, dates included June was 5 weeks. March planting experienced severe frost during initial field period resulting crop failure. plants could withstand shorter less events. Seedling did not significantly affect parameters. Transplanting resulted lower marketable yield (> 28 mm) compared earlier when crops harvested September. At full senescence, no differences observed. optimal window, taking account weather-related risks, approximately between early April end May. For some genotypes, cycle length observed be a more important yield-determining factor than date.

Effect of Magnetic Field Treatments on Germination of True Potato Seeds, Seedlings Growth and Potato Tubers Characteristics

This experiment was carried out during the two growing seasons 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 at the experimental farm of Unit for Strawberry and Non Traditional Horticulture Crops, Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Egypt, in order to investigate the effect of magnetic field on germination of true potato seeds (TPS), vegetative growth and potato tubers characterist...

Alleviating potato seed tuber shortage in developing countries: Potential of true potato seeds

Although potato is an important food and cash crop globally, its production in developing countries is hampered by constraints such as low soil fertility, pest and diseases and inadequate supply of good quality seed tubers. Lack of good quality seed is mostly a consequent of the prevailing seeds system; in most developing countries, majority of farmers recycle their own seeds or get them from i...

Increased germination of diverse crop-wild hybrid sunflower seeds.

Gene flow from crop fields to wild populations produces hybrids that often differ from their wild counterparts in growth form, phenology, and life history characteristics. Germination and dormancy dynamics have a strong influence on population persistence, competitive dynamics, and ultimately, plant fitness. They may also play a role in modifying crop gene introgression, which has been of prima...

Hydrothermal time analysis of seed dormancy in true (botanical) potato seeds

As seed dormancy is released within a seed population, both the rate and percentage of germination increase progressively with increasing dose of a dormancy-breaking treatment or condition. Population-based models can account for this behaviour on the basis of shifting response thresholds as dormancy is alleviated. In particular, hydrothermal time analysis of germination sensitivity to water po...
